We were up before the birds at 4:45 a.m. this morning to get ready to move to our new gate. Brandon (supervisor) met us at the Henderson yard at 6:00 a.m. and escorted us just south of Shreveport to the State of Louisiana 3-1 oil field. We don't actually have a physical gate here ... just a stop sign and lights next to our rig. We saw a beautiful sunrise on the way ... we are rarely up early enough to see a sunrise, but I think this will be changing for the near future!
We spent the rest of the morning getting set up, including all of our utilities, and then Sue started working around 11:30. It is 2:30 p.m. now and we have already finished one page of entries and have about 1/4 of the 2nd page done too. This is a busy gate, and if we understand it properly, has 3 or 4 wells in the frac stage behind us. No actual drilling rigs yet, but we have had trucks in and out all afternoon. They expect things to slow down by 10:00 p.m. tonight and then pick back up around 3:30 in the morning. One of the guys said that once production starts they will work daylight hours only so that will be nice.
After following several blogs for a couple of months, we feel very fortunate to be in the spot where we are. First of all, no worries about the Mexican border as we are in the next state over and way north at that! Also, most of the gates are very dusty and we don't have that issue here. We are in a very wooded, pretty spot ... we should see lots of deer we think.
All in all, we have had a very good day and we believe we will like working this gate guard gig! We will try to update often (can't promise daily, but will try) and let you know how things are going. (I'll add pictures later when we get our internet working a bit better.)
Is the daily rate still the same? The reason I ask is the gate seems busier than normal as if there were more than one pad.
