Earlier this week our gate was VERY busy. Now I know, the definition of "busy" when it comes to gate guarding can depend on the perception of the individuals involved. I also know that other gates are busier than ours. However, during the days, Sue was getting traffic either in or out about every 1 to 2 minutes, and Wayne was running about every 10-15 minutes during the nights. You wouldn't think just getting up and down to log in trucks would be tiring, but it sure can be. We were both pretty tired by the time Thanksgiving came. Sue had determined to do a lot of prep the day before, but just didn't have it in her. The only thing she got done was putting the turkey breast in the crockpot. Oh well, it sure smelled good all night long!
Thanksgiving Day was very slow, with no traffic in or out of the gate except the landowners doing some hunting. Even the night before was slow, so Wayne was able to get quite a bit of sleep. He sat on the couch and dozed off and on while watching the parade and lots of football. Sue spent all morning and half the afternoon cooking. When all was said and done, we had turkey and dressing, mashed leek potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, made-from-scratch green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and homemade apple pie. Sue rarely makes pie, but she decided to go for it this year. Everything turned out yummy, and we enjoyed our quiet day together.
Today has been quite slow as well. We have had three Stallion bobtail trucks come in a few times, hauling off several more fluid reservoir containers. Aside from a couple other visitors, it has certainly felt like the day after Thanksgiving. Much slower than usual. Of course, we really don't know what to expect at this point anyway. Being new at this gate guard business, all we know is they are in the flow back stage and what happens next is a mystery to us. We think we will be here another week or two and then we'll see what happens.
Glad you had a nice feast. We had twenty for Thanksgiving and had them all inside. It worked out great. We have the grands for the next three days while Jim and Robyn go to Las Vegas for thier anniversary. We are going to be really busy. I took Monday off to recover.
