Fall in Carlsbad

Lots of things have been happening but I want to focus on today. We were under a high wind advisory all day and the wind is still buffeting our trailer at nine p.m. My phone says the gusts are almost forty miles per hour. Earlier this afternoon however, the weather equipment here at the campground said we had gusts of over sixty miles per hour with sustained winds around forty-five to fifty. Fortunately, we had mild temperatures today in the mid-seventies and the wind wasn't cold. Otherwise it would have been miserable.
As it was though, we had our own version of a blizzard with drifts … not of snow though, but grass seed pods. I heard two different names for this grass, one being buffalo grass and the other needle grass. I haven't been able to determine which name is correct but regardless, it was quite a sight. These grassy seed pods were filling the air today as the wind howled and whipped around the buildings and RVs. Because of the direction of the wind and the way the wind currents swirled around the back patio of the main building, we ended up with a huge, and I mean huge, drift of grassy stuff. Look -- see what I mean? It was crazy!
