26 days, 10 hours, 10 minutes and counting …

... until we leave Saco, Maine. We have enjoyed ourselves, but we have “hitch itch” big time!  We are ready to move on!

The season has gone quickly in some ways, and yet in other ways it seems like we have been here a long time. We have had such a different experience than we did last summer in Illinois. The owners of this KOA campground enjoy what they are doing, and it makes all the difference in the world. That is not to say they aren’t looking forward to the season ending though! We all are! The last night of camping is October 18^th, and when the last camper leaves the next morning, we will all hit the ground running to get the campground closed. We wanted to be part of that process last year, but unfortunately, that was not to be. It should be interesting!

This last month has been full of activity, a lot of it being visits with extended family members.

The 1^st of September was our 38^th wedding anniversary, but we were working that day, so we didn’t do a lot of celebrating. However, my birthday was on Labor Day and our days off fell on that Monday (5^th) and Tuesday , so we took the opportunity to head down to Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We stopped to see Plymouth Rock and a replica of the Mayflower. We would have loved to visit the Shaker Village while we were there, but it was just too expensive, and we didn’t have the time. 

We kept driving south and visited Providence, RI (yuck!) and more importantly, visited with Wayne’s mother’s cousin, Al & his wife Betty. They have an adorable house that has been in their family for something like 100 years!

Next, my cousin, Steve Early, took quite a road trip in September, and thankfully included us in his travels. He spent two nights, Sept. 11-12 here at the KOA, and on that Monday, we all went to the Portland Head Light Lighthouse (our 4^th time there…it is so beautiful) and to the DeLorme Map Store and L.L. Bean in Freeport. We had a great time visiting. 

Then, on the 17^th, we went down to Connecticut to visit Wayne’s aunt and uncle, Forest and Barbara Nutini. Wayne's cousin Ron and his wife Cindy dropped by for an early evening visit. We had a marvelous time getting to know them and are hoping to see them all again before we leave this area.

We plan on going to the Fryeburg Fair a couple of hours northwest of Saco on the 8^th. We should be able to get some awesome pictures of the fall foliage on that trip, and I promise to post the best ones. I am falling asleep, so until then ...
